Since April 27, 2011, the City of Tuscaloosa has implemented several programs to assist the recovery process and allow us to build back smarter, safer and stronger.
Tuscaloosa Builds is a program managed by the City of Tuscaloosa that offers support and resources to minority-owned, woman-owned and disadvantaged businesses in Tuscaloosa. Free educational workshops are held on the third Thursday of every month in City Hall Council Chambers and are open to the public. |
Tuscaloosa's Emergency Alert System, an emergency notification system for residents and businesses within city limits, uses land-line telephones, mobile phones and emails to alert residents and businesses within the city limits that could be affected, threatened or endangered by an emergency event or disaster. |
The Tuscaloosa Forward Strategic Community Plan, a collaborative product created by citizens and the City of Tuscaloosa to guide recovery after the April 27, 2011 tornado, was endorsed by the City Council on Aug. 22, 2011.
The citizens of Tuscaloosa stepped up to share their best ideas on what their City can become, and from these ideas, a plan representing the future of a stronger, safer and smarter Tuscaloosa was born. The goals of this plan included:
The City Council endorsed the next step in the rebuilding process, the Tuscaloosa Forward Generational Plan on April 24, 2012. This plan creates a framework for long-term infrastructure investments in the tornado-impacted areas. This plan presents detailed planning, initial design, preliminary opinions of cost and other information for a series of critical infrastructure projects that, in coordination with other tools and strategies, will implement many of the key initiatives and themes found in the Tuscaloosa Forward Plan, and begin to transform the community's vision into reality. |
